Privacy Policy
Your privacy matters to us.
Last updated
July 20, 2026. This policy applies to Heartwood Diary for iPhone and iPad.
What we store
Your diary entries, moods, photos, audio files, dates, weather details, place names, and locally generated insight metadata are stored in the app on your device.
- Insight metadata can include language, word counts, mood tone, and recurring names. The app does not require an account.
- Diary content is not sent to developer-operated servers.
iCloud
If you turn on iCloud sync, your diary is stored in your private iCloud account so it can sync between your devices. Some small app settings may also sync through iCloud.
Location and weather
If you enable location or weather, the app uses your current location temporarily to ask Apple Weather for weather and Apple location services for a place name. Weather details and the place name may be saved with the entry. The diary does not save your exact coordinates.
Purchases and Premium
Purchases and subscriptions are handled by Apple through StoreKit. The app may read and locally cache purchase status to unlock Premium features. Payment card and billing details are not collected by the app.
Backups and exports
Backups and exports can include entries, photos, audio, weather, place names, and insight metadata. They require a password and are encrypted before they are saved or shared.
Local analysis and tracking
Insight analysis runs locally on your device. You can turn off local AI analysis and person-based insights in Settings. We do not use analytics tools, ad networks, or third-party tracking for diary content. Purchases are handled by Apple.
Face ID / Touch ID
Unlocking uses built-in iOS protection. Biometric data never leaves your device. When you use a separate diary passcode, the app stores information in the Keychain on this device that allows the passcode to be verified securely—not the passcode itself.
Deletion and retention
Diary data remains until you delete entries, delete exports, or uninstall the app. Data synced through iCloud may also need to be managed in your iCloud settings. Shared exports are outside the app's control once you save or send them elsewhere.
Third parties
The app uses Apple services for iCloud, WeatherKit, location services, StoreKit, and biometric protection when those features are used. Apple's processing of data is governed by Apple's terms and privacy policy.
